The main reasons for using visual resources in bilingual teaching are the didactics, following the main focus and principles of CLIL teaching. This is done by using visual language as a substitute for the mother language of the students.
- Avoid using the mother language
- Avoid literal translations
- Make adaptions to cater for the different ability levels of students (including areas of both comprehension and oral language)
- Use materials with very little text (particularly in the beginning)
